2022 Mind Matters Success!

Mind Matters, the North Dakota Brain Injury Network (NDBIN) annual conference, was held virtually on March 24 & 25, with over 100 participants.

The break down included 21 self advocates and 82 professionals from various fields such as:

  • Audiology
  • Speech-language pathology
  • Counseling
  • Criminal justice
  • Education
  • Injury prevention
  • Neurosurgery
  • Nursing
  • Occupational therapy
  • Physical therapy
  • Psychology
  • Social work
  • Certified Brain Injury Specialists
  • Vocational rehabilitation

Keynote speakers this year included Jennifer Robinson, who spoke on her personal experience with brain injury, and Kathy O’Connell, who spoke on “How to Support Social and Emotional Growth for Healthy Relationships in People with Disabilities.” Attendees had amazing things to say about these sessions:

I really appreciated the variety of topics. Special thanks for addressing the relationships, dating, etc., with individuals with disabilities. This comes up and is often under-addressed and an extremely important topic.

Ms. Robinson was inspiring and I could relate to her story, when she shared examples in her life.

Very powerful presentation! Thank you for being so vulnerable and sharing to make an impact on others.

Amazing resource for so many individuals. Great presentation with functional examples to decrease the struggles with addressing this so important topic.

NDBIN was thrilled to see that majority of participants had little, if any, suggestions for improvements. Next year we plan to offer a hybrid model for the conference. We will offer virtual attendance as well as in person in Mandan, North Dakota, at the Baymont Inn and Suites. Save the date for March 23 & 24 to join us in 2023 whether it be in person in Mandan or from the comfort of your home.
